The movie moment you’ve been waiting for – The return of cinema with IMAX in 2021
Back in March, Resolve assisted IMAX to promote the release of their first feature of 2021: Great Barrier Reef 3D. Its release was a year in the making, due to COVID-19 delays.
So, the promotional rollout had great anticipation and significance, for many reasons. We weren’t just promoting a movie, we were also letting the world know that IMAX is open for business!
We spent a day at IMAX installing several different graphics and signs, both internal and external.
Check out some of the signs and graphics we installed below!
Outdoor Panel
One of the signs that IMAX regularly changes over are the outdoor panels.
We did these prints on self-adhesive vinyl with laminate.
We apply those to Aluminum Composite Materia. They go into interchangeable, lockable frames that we then change for every new release campaign.
Window Graphic
IMAX’s front window also regularly gets changed over with each new release campaign.
We do this with what we call one-way vision or clear focus: a self-adhesive vinyl that we apply to the windows.
With this material, the graphic is only visible from the outside, so people can see from the other side, and light can filter through.
It’s a very simple material to put on and use. It also lasts at least 12 months – More than enough time for each promotion!
Carpark Sign
Here we have a simple 4X flatbed printed sign, put directly onto 3mm, with interchangeable panels that we velcro into place.
We also change these over with every major campaign – They are quick, easy and inexpensive to change over.
Stair Graphic
We put promotional graphics on the IMAX complex stairs that lead toward the Melbourne Museum.
These stair graphics are a specialty for significant movie releases. They will only be changed over a few times throughout the year.
Bright images, in particular, tend to work best for this. Notice how the colours of the great barrier reef light up the stairwell!
We used CarpetTex, which was applied to the back of the stairs.
While it is a single image that’s chopped up into pieces, the way we placed it on the stairs gives it a 3D effect when viewed from a distance.
