Static or Dynamic? The Great Modern Signage Debate
Digital signs are all the rage these days and look amazing as either internal or external signage.
Because digital signs are so eye-catching they offer the ability to showcase multiple messages or products on one sign.
But just because it’s possible, does it mean that multiple messages are a good idea?
If your customers notice a digital sign with multiple messages but are looking for one message in particular, they will be less likely to wait for that message to reappear, only to have to speed-read before it changes again.
Compare this to static signs, which allow customers to study the information in their own time, without pressure.
While there is a time and a place for dynamic signage, consider your customers. If your sign is in a high-volume traffic area where people typically pass by without stopping, a static sign is more likely to have the desired impact. Whereas, if your sign is in an area where people typically spend more time, such as waiting rooms, the placement of dynamic signs allows for multiple messages to be displayed, meaning there’s a better chance one of them will resonate.
A question we often get asked at Resolve is if there is only going to be one message, why would you choose a static sign over a less expensive print one?
While there is still a case for traditional signage, digital signs are going to be more cost-effective in the long run because there is no need to replace them when you want a new message – You just change the display.

The Ultimate Signage Checklist: What you Need to Know Before Ordering a New Sign
Thinking about a new sign but don’t know where to start?
To help you get all the clarity you need and take the guesswork out of your signage plans, we have created a simple ten-point checklist.
If you can tick off these nine items, you are ready to get started on your new sign.
1/ What are you trying to achieve?
Fully understand what you are trying to accomplish with the new sign.
Ask yourself questions like:
● Are you rebranding or just after a fresh new look? Is it long-term exposure and identification signage, short term sale signage, mid-term changeover signage or directional signage?
2/ Locations for signs or prints
Where will the sign or signs go?
3/ The exact size of signs or print job:
How big (or small) do you need the sign to be?
4/ Quantity: How many signs will you need?
Once we know how many signs you want, we can make sure each one is strategically placed to guarantee maximum exposure and impact.
5/ What type of sign would you like?
The type of sign you choose will often depend on your budget.
Some of the most common types of signs:
● Fabricated signs
● Illuminated 3D signs
● Lightboxes
● Banners
● Printed panels
● Self-adhesive vinyl
● Specialised signs
6/ Will you need a site inspection before installation?
For large external signs or signs that aren’t replacing an older sign, you will need a site inspection. If so, provide the address and on-site contact details.
7/ What artwork and file types are required?
8/ What is your budget?
Be clear on how much you are willing to spend on your sign.
We’ll work to your budget and give you the best option possible.
9/ When do you need the sign installed?
Have a clear timeframe for when you would like the sign to be installed.
10/ What permits do you need?
Not having the required permits for putting up your new sign can derail your project, costing you unnecessary time and money, so ensure you have all the permits you need before you start the project!
Once you answer these questions, you are ready to get started on your next signage project.
